Greene County to Award Quantum Fund Loan to Assist
Windham Country Club with Clubhouse Improvements

CATSKILL, New York (September 20, 2007) – The Greene County Legislature is awarding a Quantum Fund loan to assist Windham Country Club in a major renovation of its clubhouse and restaurant, it was announced here today by Karen Deyo, Chairperson of the Government Operations Committee of the Greene County Legislature.

The country club plans to raze its existing clubhouse, which has been added onto piecemeal since the 1920s, and rebuild a spacious new building that will incorporate a dining room, conference facilities, new commercial kitchen, pro shop, locker rooms, indoor golf cart storage and wraparound deck overlooking the golf course.

Built in a mountain architecture style that blends well with the surroundings, the new clubhouse will have a 1,300 square foot addition onto the current building. That 1960s-era structure is now being remodeled. Work on the new clubhouse is expected to get under way in mid-October and be complete by early Spring 2008.

The $850,000 project will be undertaken with the help of a low-interest $240,000 Quantum Fund loan from the county that will help pay for new furnishings, fixtures and equipment. Approximately 13 new full-job jobs are projected over the course of the next three years as a result of the expansion.

“Windham Country Club has been part of our community for more than 75 years,” noted Jim Hitchcock, County Legislator for Windham. “It makes solid business sense to support one of our businesses, especially because they are investing in themselves and working to improve their competitive advantage.”

“Our clubhouse was a patchwork of additions over the years and the time had come to build a new state-of-the-art clubhouse,” said Russell Parry, President of the Board of Directors of the Windham Country Club. “We had enough money to proceed with construction of the building, but the entire project exceeded our budget. The Quantum Fund loan closed that gap so we could buy the equipment and furnishings we needed to open a fully completed clubhouse in time for next season,” he explained.

“The new clubhouse at Windham Country Club is going to help us increase our revenues, attract more people to the area and add to our employment. It's good for everyone,” Mr. Parry said.

“It has been a pleasure working with the Windham Country Club and Russell Parry on this project,” noted Frank Alguire, Economic Developer with Greene County Planning and Economic Development. “The more we can enhance our lifestyle assets, the more attractive Greene County will become to locate and grow businesses,” he added.

Designed in 1928 and remodeled in 1964, the 18-hole public golf course is known as both scenic and challenging and was rated as a “must play” course by Golf Digest with 3.5 stars.
