Greene County Residents Urged to Take a ‘Staycation’
8 Lodging Properties Offer 30% or more Discounts to Entice Locals
(CATSKILL, New York) – For Greene County residents who want to save money this summer but not forgo a vacation altogether, there is good news in a new summer “staycation” promotion being spearheaded by Greene County’s Think BiG, Buy-In-Greene initiative. Eight local resorts are now offering a 30% discount or
more to Greene County residents and family members on any midweek stay of three nights or more.
Participants in the promotion – which runs through September – include Acra Manor, Christman’s Windham House, Kaatskill Mountain Club, Pollace’s Resort, Glen Falls House, Scribner Hollow Lodge, Thompson House and Winter Clove. Other resorts, hotels, inns and B&Bs are encouraged to join.
“Greene County residents can have a vacation in their own backyard and feel as if they are a world away,” said Warren Hart, Director of Greene County Economic Development, Tourism and Planning. “This is also a tremendous value – a family of four can share a room at one of our resorts starting at just $70 per night.”
An initiative of the Greene County Legislature, the summer Think BiG promotion works hand and hand with Greene County’s overall tourism marketing campaign to attract visitors and guests this summer in face of the national recession. Case in point is a $30,000 integrated marketing campaign that Greene Tourism has launched with funding from the Legislature to promote the county’s family-friendly resorts. The campaign includes print and online advertising, social media and public relations.
The new “staycation” campaign is another example of how the county’s Think BiG initiative is using local “value-added marketing packages” to change consumer buying preferences while showcasing amenities located in Greene County that attract visitors from around the world. By encouraging its residents to take their summer vacations within Greene County, the county is supporting local businesses and helping the economy grow. Increased tax revenues from Greene County vacationers can also help reduce the property tax burden and keep jobs within the community.
The discount being offered by the resorts is based on adult rates and double occupancy for a three-night minimum stay on Monday through Thursday. There are no discounts on children’s rates. Reservations are required and are subject to availability. Proof of Greene County residency must be presented at check-in, with at least one Greene County resident per room. For details, call the individual resorts and ask about the special lodging rates for Greene County residents.
