Location/Market Access
Strategically located in the Boston-Washington D.C. corridor with one-day access to 80 million consumers, Greene County is about 130 miles north of New York City and 30 miles south of Albany, NY. The New York State Thruway (I-87) runs through the eastern edge of the county, and the Berkshire Spur going to the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) is 11 miles away with Boston within three hours. The region is served by the Albany International Airport and Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, as well as LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City and Newark Liberty International Airport.
Greene County is also located in the heart of New York's Tech Valley, which is becoming a global center for semiconductor/microelectronics R&D and manufacturing. World-class IBM and NXP semiconductor plants are less than 60 miles to the south in East Fishkill, NY and Albany NanoTech, where New York State has invested billions of dollars in facilities for cutting-edge nanotechnology R&D, is 30 miles north.

Workforce
Greene County offers a smart, motivated workforce possessing a strong work ethic and broad array of skills. With a laborshed that reaches into seven neighboring counties, Greene County has a total civilian labor force of nearly 300,000 people. The region also has a pool of about 65,000 "underemployed" workers – about one-third of which hold a four-year college degree or higher.
The Columbia-Greene Workforce Investment Office provides businesses with recruitment assistance, training and hiring incentives, labor market information, labor law information and general business links.
Columbia-Greene Community College also offers training for business and industry. The college's quality-driven training programs assist companies in achieving peak effectiveness by providing employees, at all levels, with practical tools and knowledge that enable them to be more productive.
In addition, more than 30 colleges and universities are within a two-hour radius of Greene County. These turn out thousands of well-trained graduates each year.
